A Question of Specific Deterrence

In the early morning hours of January 2nd of this year, a gunman opened fire in the Colorado Supreme Court building. I write this with scant details; however, this is foreboding sign and one that I have written of before in relation to the problem with Donald Trump’s media personality and thuggish comportment.

As our system tries to contain someone mentally unfit to lead the country though a difficult time, with different people doing what they can to control someone who initiated a violent insurrection against the Constitution and The United States of America, violent reprisals are being taken by mentally ill people who believe Trump is some sort of savior.

Trump’s construct of reality is simplified. He does not really understand the concept of our system of government and does not respect its values. The judiciary provides the ultimate check in our system. Judges issue orders and those orders are executed by any institution who receives a copy of the order. Video comparison of his verbal ability 30 years ago and today show someone with signs of dementia.

It really is time for the Republican Party to take care of its own mess here and make sure this does not escalate into a broader fight with more violence. Trump’s demographic support is a result of a cult-of-personality approach, enabled by modern mass-influence tools. The similarities to 1930s Nazi Germany are striking and there is a lot of violence in the background.
